Are there excess charges or will the service be slowed once I've used my included data?

Once you reach your data quota in any given calendar month you will then be charged 5c/MB thereafter. Excess data charges are applied to upload as well as download.

SMS alerts are sent once you've used 80% of your monthly data and once again when excess charges will start to apply.

What if I want to upgrade my plan?

Upgrades take effect on the 1st day of the calendar month. Upgrades must be requested 5 business days prior to the end of the month.

1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, and 12GB plans can be upgraded from one to the other.

3GB, 6GB, and 10GB plans can be upgraded from one to the other. (unbundled 3GB=29.99/month, 6GB=$39.99/month, 10GB=$59.99/month and bundled 3GB=$24.99, 6GB=$34.99/month and 10GB=$44.99/month)

Is there a limit to the amount of data I can use per calendar month?

12GB is the maximum amount of data you can use in any given calendar month.

If you purchased a 1GB, 3GB, 6GB or 10GB plan prior to the 27th May, 2011, 10GB is the maximum amount of data you can use in any given calendar month.

What happens once I reach my limit of data in any given calendar month?

The Mobile Wireless Broadband service will be suspended until the first day of the next calendar month.

Will you notify me once I've used my included data?

We may notify you by email and SMS when you've used 80% and 100% of your included data in any given calendar month.

What hardware do I need?

You will need a computer with a spare USB port.

Australia On Line provide the SIM card and optionally a Huawei E160e USB modem. The USB modem looks like a USB thumb drive and can be plugged into a spare USB port directly or via a USB cable.

What are the computer requirements?

You need a PC or Laptop with a USB port and Windows XP or higher, or a Mac with OS X 10.3.7 or above.

What are the purchase options?

SIM + Modem packs are available for $99 plus $15 postage.

$99 cash back is available for SIM + Modem packs with a 24 month commitment.

SIM only packs are available for $25. plus $5 postage.

$25 cash back is available for SIM only packs with a 24 month commitment.

How do I receive my SIM and when can I start to use it?

After you've signed up, you will be charged the purchase price for your chosen hardware, the first month's access fee and postage and handling.

The hardware will be dispatched to you via Australia Post.

The SIM card will not be activated when you receive it.

Upon receiving the SIM card you should call Australia On Line support, identify yourself and your SIM card will be activated.

How does the cash back offer work?

You may choose to commit to a minimum term for this Service for which you will be refunded the Setup Fee. In the event that you obtain a cash back refund and terminate the Service during the committed term, you will be charged an early termination fee.

Upon purchase of either the SIM + Modem packs or SIM only pack, you print out a cash back application form from our website.

Return the form within 30 days of purchase.

Australia On Line will remit the cash back amount you are entitled after the first 30 days if you have not applied for our coverage guarantee.

The cash back is not available where you have obtained the coverage guarantee. The early termination fee is $159.

What if I already have my own hardware such as a 3G modem, 3G iPad or laptop with a built in 3G modem?

SIM only packs are available for $25 plus $5 postage

$25 cash back is available for SIM only packs with a 24 month commitment.

How much does it cost up front?

A SIM + Modem pack is $99 and $99 cash back is available with a 24 month commitment.

A SIM only pack is $25 and $25 cash back is available with a 24 month commitment.

The monthly access charge is paid monthly in advance from either a credit card or direct debit.

What modem does Australia On Line provide?

Huawei E160e USB modem is provided as part of the SIM + Modem pack.

Which 3G network delivers Australia On Line mobile broadband?

Australia On Line uses the Optus Dual Band 3G Mobile Network.

It delivers 3G access to 96% of Australia's population using the 900/2100 MHz network bands.

When does my included data quota begin and end?

The included data quota applies to the calendar month.

Any data unused in an given calendar month is not carried over to the next month.

Your data quota is restored on the first day of the calendar month.

When your SIM card is activated part way through a month, you will be entitled to your full data quota in that first calendar month, even though the SIM card will only be active for part of that first calendar month.

Am I charged the full monthly access fee for the first part month my SIM is active?

When a SIM card is activated part way through the first calendar month, you may be charged the full access fee when you sign up, but the amount of that first charge that is in excess of the pro rata calculated access fee for the first month will be applied to the following month. Hence you would be charged less than the expected monthly access fee for the second month.

Australia On Line provides support for the hardware we sell.

Australia On Line sell and support the Huawei E160e USB Modem.

Other hardware may work but is not supported by Australia On Line and we cannot provide advice or technical assistance for it.

In particular the Optus Network supports 3G on the 2100 MHz and 900 MHz frequencies.

Optus uses the 900 MHz frequency for 3G outside of the metropolitan areas.

Some devices such as the current generation 3G iPad cannot use 3G on the 900 MHz network, such that they will fall back to slower 2G or 2.5G connections and hence slower speeds in 900 MHz 3G coverage areas.

Will I still be an Australia On Line customer?

You will still be a customer of Australia On Line customer not an Optus customer.

Does Australia On Line offer a coverage guarantee?

Yes.

You may be eligible for our Coverage Guarantee If you are unhappy with Australia On Line's Mobile Wireless Broadband coverage within the first 30 days of signing up for the service.

To make a claim under Australia On Line's coverage guarantee you need to :-

  1. You lodge a Coverage Guarantee claim with Australia On Line, by phone to our accounts department during business hours on 1300 364 074, within 30 days of signing up for the Mobile Wireless Broadband service. You will receive a coverage guarantee claim number as evidence that you have lodged your claim; and
  2. You need to return in good condition to Australia On Line either the SIM card alone if you purchased the SIM only pack, or the SIM and Modem pack with all attachments.

The claim will be approved if the claim has been lodged within 30 days of signing up for the Mobile Wireless Broadband service and all the purchased items are received in good condition at Australia On Line with the claim number attached.

In the event that, you've applied for cashback with a committed term for the service subject to Coverage Guarantee claim, Australia On Line will release you from the committed term for the service or else if you are not subject to a Cash Back committed term, Australia On Line will refund the purchase price ($99 in the case of the SIM and Modem pack or $25 in the case of the SIM only pack).

If you are making a claim under the Australia On Line Coverage Guarantee it is your responsiblity to ensure that we receive the purchased items and we receive them in good condition at:

If we do not receive the purchased items or we do not receive the purchased items in good condition, we cannot approve the coverage guarantee claim and in the event that your service is subject to a committed term and you cancel the service, an early termination fee will apply.

Are there any international roaming charges?

Australia On Line Mobile Wireless Broadband is only for use in Australia.

Are there any roaming charges?

No. There are no roaming charges.

How fast will my service be?

Downloading will be fast, typically 1 to 2 Mb/s.

There are a number of factors that affect the speed and effectiveness of the signal including :-

  1. The Location of the USB modem, indoors, out of doors.
  2. The type of building the Mobile Wireless Broadband is used in.
  3. Blocking behaviour of surrounding buildings.
  4. Distance from the mobile phone tower.
  5. The number of people using the mobile network in the area at the time.
Downloading may not be as fast as an ADSL or ADSL2+ fixed line service.

If you require high speeds and have large download requirements then Mobile Wireless Broadband may not meet your needs.

Is upload included in my "included data" as well as download?

Yes, your included data includes upload and downloaded data.

How will I track my usage?

Your usage is available in the members area of our website.

Will I get a free email box with Australia On Line Mobile Wireless Broadband?

Yes. 20 free email boxes are available with each Mobile Wireless Broadband service, including free junk email filter and free email virus filter.

Will I get free web space with Australia On Line Mobile Wireless Broadband?

Yes, 10MB free web space is available with each Mobile Wireless Broadband service.

Does the SIM card allow SMS messages or phone calls.

No, the SIM card only supports Internet access.

Is a static IP address available?

Yes, static IP addresses are available for an extra $5/month.

Can I change my plan?

Yes. Plan upgrades are free.

Plan downgrades incur a $29 charge.

Plan changes occur on the 1st day of the calendar month providing plan changes are notified to Australia On Line by the fifth last business day of the prior calendar month.

How do I cancel my plan?
